The 14th Century Bakery
65 High Street, Lindfiled, Awaiting Heritage & Planning Permission.
Architecture, Conservation, Master planning, Landscaping & Interior Architecture
Due to be completed Summer 2024.
REAFE STUDIO is delighted to be working again with a client who has this time entrusted us with the full restoration of their unique 14th Century bakery. Situated in one of West Sussex’s most beautiful villages, The Old Bakery will be a fine example of sympathetic restoration in one of the South of England’s most beloved ancient villages.
Over the years, many modern alterations and additions have shrouded and damaged the beautiful, original timber structure. The once beautiful Georgian windows, shopfront and architectural details have been lost to poorly considered modern replacements. We will reinstate the original design details in order to preserve the building whilst also making it a light, environmentally friendly home for modern family life.
We will take a light touch approach, ensuring the patina and history of the Bakery’s features are not lost in the restoration process. We will do this by using traditional techniques and materials and safeguarding historical features. Whilst the building will require a new kitchen and bathrooms we will endeavour to use salvaged and historical elements wherever possible.
We have been carefully measuring every beam, wall and historic detail in order to create a 3D Digital twin which will aid conservation, restoration and subsequent planning approval of this important Grade 2 Star property. The work throughout the scheme will be undertaken by the best heritage crafts people and suppliers in the hope that the building will continue to inspire for many centuries to come.
The work involved Architecture, Conservation, Master Planning, Landscaping, Architectural Interventions, Interior Architecture.
